The Sample Handling Laboratory in the Cancer and Haematology Centre, Churchill Hospital, Oxford processes patient samples from cancer clinical trials. The role of the postholder is to take receipt of and process clinical samples according to defined laboratory protocols. This will involve several techniques including centrifugation of blood samples, separation of plasma/serum and also of white cells for DNA extraction and other assays.

The postholder will also provide supervision to junior staff and take a lead in implementing new working practices to improve monitoring and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures within the laboratory under the supervision of the Consultant Nurse and Senior Scientist.

Applicants should be educated to A level standard science or equivalent, have experience of operating electronic databases and the ability to train and supervise other laboratory technicians. You should also have excellent manual dexterity, accuracy and laboratory experience gained in a regulated environment. An ability to communicate well both in writing and verbally are essential.

This is a full-time post and is available for one year in the first instance.
